ROME – Run for Rome and make all of Rome run, this is the real big goal of 29 March 2020, the official date of the new Acea Run Rome The Marathon introduced this morning at the Ara Pacis Museum.

The name and the logo themselves are enough to grasp the new project, new energies, and the great desire to show that Rome loves sports, particularly running. An international level marathon with tens of thousands of athletes, half of them coming from hundreds of countries, but also great attention to the Romans and to Rome, a city unique in the world for its charm, monuments, history, UNESCO heritage. A whole new organisation entrusted to Infront, Corriere dello Sport – Stadio, Italia Marathon Club and Atielle.

The Mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi, formalized the start of the new project Acea Run Rome The Marathon, together with the Council Member for Sports, Youth Policies and Major Citizens Events, Daniele Frongia. Acea was officially named as title sponsor of the Roman marathon with its President Michaela Castelli, also present Alessandro Giacomini, Infront Italy Managing Director, Daniele Quinzi Marketing Director Corriere dello Sport – Stadio and Enrico Castrucci, President of Italia Marathon Club.

“The countdown to the 2020 edition of the Rome Marathon has officially begun. It will be a celebration of and for everyone. An event that will be presented with a new look, starting from the organisation of the event that after years has been awarded with a public tender. In addition to the competition of athletes, there will be many other additional events and with the Stracittadina anticipated on Saturday, open to all those who want to have fun and regain possession of the areas of the city free from cars and smog. The Acea Run Rome The Marathon looks to the future, but at the same time preserves its unique charm represented by a path that runs through the history of Rome and its symbolic monuments. The hope is that with this formula and with this new partnership it will be possible to confirm the largest marathon in Italy and for the city to project itself more and more as a point of reference for international running,” states the Mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi.

“We are really proud to be able to present today, together with the winning organisers of the public tender, the renewed Rome Marathon, today Acea Run Rome The Marathon. Pride that is revealed because, after years of inertia and indifference, we taken back a high-level sporting event under our administration by announcing a public notice, as required by law. The renewed synergy between the organisation and Roma Capitale will be able to transform it in a very short time into the most representative running event in Italy, symbol of the Capital and even more a source of pride for our Administration”, declares the Council Member for Sports, Youth Policies and Major Citizens Events, Daniele Frongia.

“It is an honour to confirm the Company’s support for the Acea Run Rome The Marathon, this extraordinary race that combines tradition and innovation in the 2020 edition. The Company recognises itself in the values of sport and participation and, this year too, binds its name to this event, recognised among the most well-known sporting events at a national level and among the most appreciated worldwide. For Acea, this is a more than twenty-year tradition that testifies to the company’s strong connection with the territory. Acea was founded in Rome exactly 110 years ago and the relationship with this wonderful city is therefore one of profound belonging,” says Acea President, Michaela Castelli.

“We are excited to be able to contribute with our expertise in the mass events sector and to the growth of an event of international importance such as Acea Run Rome The Marathon – comments Alessandro Giacomini, Managing Director Infront Italy – We are working with our partners to make this event richer, engaging and more exciting, not only for the marathon runners, but for all those who love Rome and who can enjoy a long weekend of sports, celebration and fun.”

“the 26th edition of the Rome marathon that does not erase the past but looks ahead. It’s all new, full of innovation and content – confirms Daniele Quinzi, Marketing Director of the Corriere dello Sport – Stadio – it will comprise two days of competitions with three events: Saturday’s Fun Run, the marathon and the first edition of the Acea Run4Rome Relay. Everyone in Rome will be able to run and feel like one of the stars of the venue, it will be an event for all the people of Rome, whom I now call on to take to the streets to walk, run or even just cheer and applaud. As in Berlin or New York, the marathon is a party and a show celebrated by all the people of the city”.

“Right from the outset, the group’s goal for the event was to combine tradition with modernity; in this sense, it is also a challenge for Rome itself: coming to terms with its history and the reality of the times. This is exactly what inspired our work, a more international perspective driving the deployment of our entire technical and organisational resources. We very much believe in the project and with our partners, veritable giants in their sectors, we are sure to achieve truly significant goals in terms of sporting values sense and for the city”, thus commented Enrico Castrucci, President of the Italia Marathon Club.

A NEW RELAY RUN – Great news: on Sunday morning, for the first time in Rome thanks to the Acea Run4Rome Relay, everyone will be able to run the marathon, just join a 4-person team and fulfil your dream of making the finish line at the Imperial Forums. Each member of the team will run about 10 km; “united and strong” – so even beginners or all those who like to run distances less demanding than the full 42 km can thus be protagonists on the day.

Running shoes on and we’ll be on the go already on Saturday with the city Fun Run, 4.5 km city entirely in the historic centre – a great party for everyone, from children in pushchairs to adults, families and groups of friends, runners and walkers. Smiles and selfies galore – what a way to get together and feel good embracing the city and its most beautiful streets.

EXPO – Located in Ragusa Off, a location created from the recovery of the most prestigious Atac properties, the Acea Run Rome The Marathon Expo-Village will be the runner’s and all participants’ home for two days, Friday, 28th and Saturday, 29th March. An area of 4 thousand square metres, with over 30 thousand people passing through and lots of activities such as conventions, presentations, as well as collecting racing bibs and race packs.

PANTHEON FOR MEDAL – The medal is the symbol of victory, the marathon runner’s prize of 42.195 km, will be kept in the homes of participants worldwide.

The medal created in for the occasion of the first Acea Run Rome The Marathon edition is unique, one in a million and is tied to one of the most well known and iconic symbols of the Eternal City. In fact, the perfectly round shape of the medal has allowed us to use our creativity in order to pay homage to one of the Eternal City’s most important monuments: the Pantheon.

The Pantheon is an almost magical eternal monument, thanks to the legend linked to its dome, and is rich in positive values because it was built in honour of all the gods. Its history evokes excellence and for this reason it represents the perfect symbol to give to all the marathon runners who will leave a mark in Rome.

GET READY – 18 meetings scheduled with Acea Run Rome The Marathon Get Ready, from December until the day of the marathon, one of the biggest new elements of this edition, never took place in the past. Events that will accompany the Roman runners, free and for everyone, both for those who are neophytes and have little experience with running, and for those who have already run many marathons. Moments of celebration, of joy, of music thanks to Radio Globo, sharing of workouts and many new friends and advice thanks to two Roman testimonials who are two great champions. One of them is Franca Fiacconi, winner of the 1998 Rome Marathon and the only Italian woman to have triumphed on the streets of the New York City Marathon, the other is Giorgio Calcaterra, three-time world champion ultramarathon 100 km and many times finisher of the marathon in Rome under the Colosseum. To guide Acea Run Rome The Marathon Get Ready, we have three worthy professional coaches: Andrea Giocondi, who with his past as an Olympic athlete can tell us how important the determination factor is; Diego Camilli, manager-coach of the “Circolo Due Ponti” in Rome for the Triathlon and Athletics section (long and medium distance) and President-Coach of the company “ASD Zona Cambio”, Triathlon and Running section (long and medium distances) and we have Isabella Calidonna, an incurable romantic, in love with the combination of sport and culture. These training sessions will be held in four of the most exclusive sports clubs in the capital, first in the four main districts of Rome starting with the Ponte Milvio, then we shall repeat at Villa Borghese, Ostia, Roma Sud and Centocelle. There will also be two ArcheoRunning events, races-walks through the historic center, accompanied by tourist guide Isabella Calidonna. Acea Run Rome The Marathon thanks the following structures for their active collaboration: Villa York Sporting Club, Forum Sport Center, Maximo Sport & Fitness, Due Ponti Sporting Club and the Dabliu Centres.
