Mayor Raggi: “Rome proves to be at the forefront of international sporting events”. There is also the Acea Run4Rome Relay with the Charity Programme and the 5 km Fun Race can be run anywhere in the world. The event has a new goal of becoming environmentally sustainable by 2023. ROME – In the prestigious Sala del Tempio di Adriano, site of the Chamber of Commerce of Rome, the Acea Run Rome The Marathon that will be run on Sunday 19 September 2021 was presented.
A long-awaited Sunday after the postponement last March 2020 following the Covid-19 pandemic, it will be the Alba Edition Special Race, with the start set for 6:45 a.m. on the Fori Imperiali. A ‘safe recovery’, as all Covid-19 health safety regulations in force on the day of the race will be adopted, and also a very emotional recovery. The athletes will be lined up at the start still in the dark before dawn, waiting for the first light of day, it will be the moment of rebirth for the city of Rome, for sport, for well-being. It will be time to conquer Rome, to hear footsteps that become music, to run as the city gently wakes up.
Organised by Infront Italy, Corriere dello Sport – Stadio, Italia Marathon Club and Atielle, Acea Run Rome The Marathon will be the first major international marathon to resume activities and there are many projects linked to the event that this year more than ever wishes to involve the whole city, and more.
At the heart of the project is the solidarity Acea Run4Rome relay and Stracittadina Fun Race in which you can participate from all over Italy and abroad. An event that will last three days, thanks to Expo Village open from Friday 17 located at the Terme di Caracalla – Stadio Nando Martellini.
With the general coordination of the event entrusted to Lorenzo Benfenati, Project Manager of Infront and the technical director of the marathon Nicola Ferrante, the marathon is also possible thanks to the help of hundreds of volunteers and many associations in the city who believe in and strongly contribute to the success of the event. These include the Roman Historical Group, a cultural association that has been active for more than 25 years in the field of cultural dissemination and, as in every edition, is the protagonist in the start and finish areas with a re-enactment of ancient Rome, the only accredited organisation in the world. Among the many events of the marathon, thanks to Athletica Vaticana, the Sports Association of the Holy See, on Saturday 18 September at 6 p.m., in the Church of the Artists (Santa Maria in Montesanto) in Piazza del Popolo, the Mass of the Marathon runner will take place, celebrated by Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi to which all marathon runners are invited. During the presentation, Bib 1 was handed to the three-time world champion in the 100 km ultramarathon, Giorgio Calcaterra, who has started the Rome Marathon dozens of times and is a symbol of this city and this marathon. The same number will also be given to former Italian marathon runner Franca Fiacconi, winner in 1998.
“The city of Rome is proud to host one of the most important international marathons that will take place after the most difficult period of the pandemic. Acea Run Rome The Marathon will take place at dawn, an even more evocative edition in the magnificent setting of the capital: once again Rome proves to be at the forefront of international sporting events”, declared the Mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi.
CIRCULARITY PROJECT, SUSTAINABILITY PARTNER – An event of this magnitude could not fail to incorporate the sustainable development objectives of the United Nations 2030 Agenda into its activities. This is why Acea Run Rome The Marathon aims to reduce its environmental impact by 2023. The path undertaken by INFRONT, in collaboration with its Sustainability partner CIRCULARITY, an innovative start-up and benefit company operating in the circular economy, will begin with the measurement of the environmental impact of the 2021 sports event and the organisation of related initiatives that will involve both Rome and the entire country. This will only be the beginning of an incremental path, with a sustainability strategy until 2023, which will see each event characterised by actions linked to the major challenges of sustainability, both social and environmental.
THE MEDAL – The only marathon in the world to present two medals. All participants who were registered for the 2020 marathon and have confirmed their registration for 2021 will also receive last year’s medal depicting the Pantheon. The dream was there, the dream remained!
The Acea Run Rome The Marathon 2021 medal is tied to an iconic Roma element: the Sampietrino. A silent witness to the city and one of the most characteristic elements of the capital, the Sampietrino is to all intents and purposes a great little symbol of Rome’s historic centre.
As for the Acea Run4Rome relay medal, some of Rome’s most important monuments have been incorporated into a single object, forming a real city skyline. Centrally located here too is the iconic cobblestone, an element that characterises the Acea Run4Rome and marathon route and accompanies runners in their endeavour, just as if they were running a marathon.
ART CARD – Three of the main cultural initiatives dedicated to marathon runners and their accompanying persons include: ART CARD provides free admission to the Museums of the Civic Museum System of Roma Capitale for marathon runners and one accompanying person for a whole week, from 16 to 23 September. ARCHEORUNNING – Thanks to Isabella Calidonna, creator of Archeorunning, the project created to entice more people to practice sports and at the same time get to know unusual places in Romelives on. Participants and their families in the days before or after the race will be able to experience the city through gentle exercise in the form of running tours or walking tours. APPIA ANTICA – Also among the proposals for collaboration to enrich the experience offered to participants in the Acea Run Rome The Marathon is the Archaeological Park and Regional Park of Appia Antica. There will be a special card that will allow athletes registered for the marathon, the relay and the stracittadina, free entry to all the sites and archaeological areas of the Park for the period between 17 and 26 September 2021.
FINISHER T-SHIRT AND OPPORTUNITIES – Together with the bib number it is possible to buy a second special edition ‘Finisher Acea Run Rome The Marathon’ t-shirt, available as a separate and additional purchase for all those who may already be registered for the 2020 edition. All registered participants will have a souvenir t-shirt of the event, signed by the technical sponsor Joma, automatically included in the race pack. When purchasing a bib, there are various opportunities to take advantage of and book, such as the personalisation of the medal with your own final race time, the photo and video package, the insurance for assistance and reimbursement and sensational offers for the accommodation to enjoy a relaxing weekend in Rome.
