Sod Italia
Run for Inclusion: support rare disease patients and people with disabilities with us and our Joëlette!
Mission
SOD Italia APS is a Third Sector Organization founded in 2007 with the aim of protecting the rights and improving the quality of life of people with disabilities and very rare diseases, such as Septo Optic Dysplasia (SOD) and other neuroendocrine disorders. SOD is a rare and complex condition that involves serious problems of the endocrine and neurological system and multiple disabilities.
In addition to offering support to patients, family members and caregivers and contributing scientifically at an international level, we are committed to the social inclusion of people with disabilities through sport.
The Joëlette race (off-road wheelchairs)
In 2010, we founded the SOD Italia Running Team, becoming the first organization to bring Joëlette to running races. This allowed us to create groups of people with and without disabilities who run together, fostering a strong sense of community. Our project has evolved over time, going beyond sports and including outdoor activities and accessible tourism.
We use the Joëlette as a means to advance our goal because it offers two great opportunities:
- The person with disabilities participates by staying at the center, and not on the margins as usually happens.
- People can get closer to the world of disability and discover its great richness.
We are present at Run Rome The Marathon to carry forward the #includeveryone message and support the activities of our running team with the campaign “Take the brake off inclusion” that you can find on retedeldono.it.
