Sea Shepherd

Sea Shepherd is a volunteering, non-profit conservationist organization whose mission is to stop the destruction of marine environments around the world. Sea Shepherd uses direct action to investigate, document and take action when necessary to fight illegal activities at sea.

Thanks to the generous, continuous and tireless effort of our supporters, we can continue our work by improving the effectiveness of our operations every year, enforcing national and international laws, always collaborating with authorities, to safeguard marine biodiversity and defend the ecosystems that allow our very survival, for the benefit of future generations. The Mediterranean is the most overexploited sea in the world and has one of the highest concentrations of microplastics ever seen.

Since its foundation in 2010, Sea Shepherd Italy has been constantly battling both on land and at sea, reaching numerous milestones for each mission, saving the highest number of lives at sea possible.

There are six active campaigns in Italy at this time. Operation Siracusa in defense of the Plemmirio Marine Protected Area in Sicily. SISO Campaign acting against illegal FADs (Fish Aggregating Devices) in the Mediterranean. Monk Seal Defense Campaign, protecting the endangered Mediterranean monk seal. Jairo Project to protect Caretta caretta turtles nesting on the shores of Italy. Ghostnet Campaign fighiting the problem of abandoned fishing gear. Anguilla Campaign to protect eels, a critically endangered species, against poaching of juveniles.

All this is possible thanks to the passion and determination of the volunteers, who dedicate their time and energy every day to protect the sea and its inhabitants. But above all thanks to all those who support us and allow us to stay at sea!
