Bambin Gesù EN

The Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital was founded in Rome in 1869 as the first Italian children’s hospital, on the initiative of the Salviati dukes, and donated to the Holy See in 1924. In 1985 the Ospital received recognition as an Institute for Scientific Hospitalization and Care (IRCCS), alongside scientific research activity to medical assistance. In 2006 it obtained its first accreditation from the Joint Commission International (JCI), the institute that certifies excellence in hospitality and quality of care offered by hospitals throughout the world. In 2014 the new research laboratories were inaugurated, which extend over 5000 square meters, equipped with the most modern technologies for genetic and cellular investigations.
The health care of Bambino Gesù is divided into 4 centres: in Rome, in the historic site of the Gianicolo and in the new site of San Paolo Fuori le Mura; on the Lazio coast in Palidoro and Santa Marinella. A total of 607 beds for a total surface area of 500,000 square meters. Every year there are over 27,000 hospitalizations, 26,000 surgical and interventional procedures, 70,000 days of day hospital, 78,000 visits to the emergency room, over 1,600,000 outpatient services: one of the most significant pediatric case studies at a European level. The Hospital’s intervention horizon extends beyond the territory of Rome and Lazio: approximately 30% of hospitalized patients come from outside the Region, while 13% are of foreign origin.
The Bambino Gesù Foundation was founded in 2000, the charitable organization supporting the hospital’s activities, of which it represents the operational arm in fundraising.
